Great Organic Gardening Advice You Should Follow

If you are environmentally conscious and worried about the toxic effects of chemicals, organic gardening may be for you. Organic gardeners eschew the harsh chemicals and fertilizers used by large corporate farms. Organic gardening is also cheap and requires very little equipment. To begin your journey into the world of organic gardening, follow these tips. Plant perennials that are resistant to slug and snail infestations. If slugs or snails find their favorite perennials in your garden, they'll snack all night. When you wake up in the morning, there will be very little left of your plants. These garden vermin prefer plants with tender, herbaceous stems and leaves, particularly seedlings and young plants. Some perennials, however, leave a bad taste in slugs' mouths or are difficult to chew through because their leaves aren't tender. Some of examples of these are achillea, heuchera, campanula, helleborus, and euphorbia. You must be sure to remove all of the weeds that grow in your garden. Those nasty weeds can turn your beautiful garden into a scruffy version of its former self. White vinegar is a pesticide-free way to battle weeds. It can kill weeds. Load up your spray bottle with some white vinegar, and spray the weeds away instead of breaking your back removing them by hand. Set your mower blades higher, so you don't cut the grass too short. By leaving your grass a little higher off the ground, it give the roots a chance to grow deep into the soil which makes the lawn stronger, and that helps keep it from drying out. Short grass leads to more shallow roots and will result in more brown, dried-out patches. If powdery mildew appears on your plants, don't purchase expensive chemical solutions. Combine a bit of liquid soap and some baking soda with water. Once every week, you should spray the mixture on your plants; the mildew will disappear shortly thereafter. This mixture will not hurt your plants and it will eliminate the mildew slowly but efficiently. As indicated at the beginning of this article, people have been reaping the benefits of gardening for hundreds of years. Once, it was a new way of getting and providing food. Now, it can be done by people who have no intention of even growing food; it is used for pleasure as well as for other reasons. The ideas, wisdom and knowledge shared with you in this article are sure to enhance your appreciation for gardening, regardless of your personal motivations for gardening in the first place.
